FACIAL SECTION

Anatomy and Physiology

General study of the subjects to include cells, tissues and the main systems of the body – muscular, vascular (circulation), skeletal, digestive, respiratory, lymphatic, excretory, nervous, endocrine and reproductive, as they relate to the work of the beauty therapist.

Skin
- Detailed study of the skin and its appendages – hair and nails.
- Skin disorders and contra-indications to salon or home treatments.
- Disorders of the eyes and eyelids.

Facial Massage
- Excluding any form of medical treatment.
- Basic back massage to remove tension.
- Theory and effects of massage.
- Contra-indications to massage.
- Skin types and conditions – how to recognise and advise on corrective treatments.
- Masks and compresses.
- Choice and use of preparations.
- Specialised facial treatments – knowledge of methods used generally in practice, e.g. skin peeling.
- Different treatments based on age group.

Eyes
- Eyebrow shaping
- Eyelash and eyebrow tinting.
- Application of eye make-up and false lashes.
- Contra-indications to eyelash tinting or cosmetic application.
- Eyelash perming.

Superfluous Hair
Treated by the following methods, each discussed and studied in detail: -
-Depilatory waxing
-Hot wax and honey wax
-Depilatory creams
-Bleaching
-Contra-indications

Manicure and Pedicure
- Nail care
- Structure of the nails
- Conditions and diseases of the nails
- Causes of nail disorders and treatments
- Manicure procedure
- Hand waxing
- Hand peeling – oil manicure
- Foot massage

Make-up
- The practise and art of make-up, using a variety of products of various types and makes
- Corrective make-up, i.e. correction of bad features and perfecting good features
- Colour planning and harmony in make-up
- Fixing and shaping artificial eyelashes
- Eye make-up in all forms
- Additional classes are offered by a visiting renowned make-up artist

Electrical facial treatments including: -
- Steam and ozone
- High frequency
- Galvanic
- Vacuum
- Suctin
- Infa-red
- Radiant heat
- Ultra-violet and faradism
- Micro current, percussion and audio sonic
