SYLLABUS
THEORY
- History of Indian Head Massage
- Contra-indications to the treatment
- Blood supple to the head
- Neck and shoulder area
- Position of main arteries and veins of the head and neck
- Position of bones of cranium and face
- Nerve supply to the head, neck and shoulders
- Position and action of facial muscles
- Lymph supply to the head and shoulders
STRUCTURE OF SKIN
- Position and function of Epidermis and Dermis
- Subcutaneous/ Adipopse Layer, Melanocytes
FUNCTIONS OF THE SKIN
- Functions of the skin
- Functions and formation of the acid mantle
- Skin types – recognise types, conditions, colour and devise
treatment programmes
- Understand contra-indications and when and how to treat various
skin conditions
- Recognise skin disease – infestations, congenital, bacterial,
viral, fungal, pigmentation disorders, general disorders
SKIN CANCER
Recognise and describe causes of main skin cancers.
PRACTICAL
- Perform consultation
- Recognise contra-indications
- Recognise scalp conditions
- Classical massage movements – Effleurage, Petrissage,
Kneading and Frictions, Tapotement, Vibrations
- Treat fully clothed client
